religion is... a quirky subject for a variety of different reasons. However the one that stands out the most is that there are so many different ones that bring on similar if not the same views about the nature of the universe and how one should live in it.
I am lead to believe that because of the nature of existence, people become confused as to what they are supposed to do in the world. i mean its like hiring someone onto a new job in which they have no experience, without giving them any training. they just kinda fumble around a bit until they get the hang of it by watching someone or trying it out first hand to see what works.
Religion is like job training, and the job is of course existing. When it comes to personal experiences, there are really only two interfaces(?). the world, and your thoughts. maybe there is a purpose, maybe there isnt. you dont know, but the question bothers you because you dont know what to do with yourself. so one does what humans do, and that is use your thoughts to figure out a desired outcome, then work towards it. thus giving themselves purpose. this process is simply part of the human experience.
Now this is all pretty cut and dry when it comes to materialistic purpose. but it does not answer the questions "how should i feel? what should i think? is there a right way to think? a wrong way to think? a right and wrong to begin with?" the hard questions of life which can all be summed up into two simple questions "What is life, and how should i live it?". this is the question that religion and spiritualy try to produce answers for, and the questions that one must ask to further understanding of the self and of the world around them.
So what is life? and how should i live it?
beyond processes that logic and reason can not understand yet, there is no real way to answer these questions and have the answers explained thoroughly. so what does it all break down to?
well, i think that it means that the only way to truly live life is to believe in what fulfills you as a person. there are many answers to these questions out there, and for every answer there are people who find fulfillment in it. so what fulfills you? knowing that you have an answer and living your life according to that answer? or is it possible that the adventure of learning about the world, and the journey to find the answer is what fulfills you?
the more i think and meditate about this, looking at the way the world is today, i realize that the world couldn't really be any other way than it is now.
