*waves* Just to note. . .that never made it into the actual "Rulez". It was more of a "gentleperson's agreement" than a rule . . . It was decided that the frustration and strife wasn't worth the debate. Those who were around agreed to it, but it was waaaaaay before you came here,...

If the question is whether the 10 Commandments have any bearing on our current legal system, by and large I'd say yes. If you're asking whether they've been used as a political 2x4, I'd say yes as well. That's exactly why I'm not touching this one. As much as I'd like to help someone out, this topi...

I just finished reading a book called The Hunger Games , by Suzanne Collins. It's a YA novel set in a post-war North America. . . (This was written by Johan)- "The basic plot is that in a post-US North America, there are twelve districts. As punishment for a rebellion 74 years before, each dist...

it can be whatever you like. answer the question however you like, as long as the answer pertains to the question. political or otherwise. Mm... Political discussions are banned on EW as far as I know. The Ten Commandments issue is I would say, only a cultural issue in passing; these days it's prim...

I just finished re-reading The Secret Garden, by Frances Burnett. I had forgotten how wonderful that book is! I last read it when I was about the same age as the MC (9 or 10).

Also slowly working through Just So Stories, by Rudyard Kipling, with my older sons. Such fun!!

Someone recommended Tad Williams to me and I'm waiting for the final book in the Otherland series. It's pretty good. New concept -- a bit drawn out but nice. I like finding new SciFi/Fantasy authors. Waiting, like, for it to arrive? Because it's been out for a while. I enjoyed all but the last book...

I always imagined, before I knew Christ, what it would be like to meet Aslan. That word, that dichotomy, that confusion, is exactly what I imagined then , and what I felt (and still feel, when I let my mind linger on) the presence of God. You can "ignore" it if you want to. . .but if you s...

But didn't Jesus explicitly tell you guys to go out and look after the homeless? I mean, if it's an instruction people get to shrug off because they're not comfortable with the homeless, well, okay. But try to shrug off the other half of it because you're not comfortable with Jesus, and suddenly it...

He has "anger issues". Nothing dangerous, just trouble getting a grip on his frustrations when things aren't going exactly as planned. He says sometimes he feels like his head is going to explode, or like it's full of steam. He and I just had a long talk about how to deal with that. I reme...

What I mean is, God intends for you to follow his rules or you will suffer eternal damnation (however you define it). I follow these rules, not to avoid damnation, but because its the logical thing to do. In other words, I don't need a God telling me how to behave. That's what I mean by intent. So,...

Actually, from where I see it, sexuality has little to do with it. I'd think that we'd be as nonplussed having our entire thought life laid bare as if we were thrown into a situation like that . . . The shame wasn't about their bodies (although the Victorian age did a lot to point it in that directi...
